The IRA Charitable Rollover is Back - Permanently

The Individual Retirement Account (IRA) charitable rollover has once again been renewed, but this time Congress has made it permanent. On December 18, 2015 the President signed into law legislation that retroactively extends the charitable IRA rollover and made this provision permanent for future years.

If you are 70½ or older and own a traditional IRA, consider making an IRA charitable rollover gift. A gift of up to $100,000 made directly from your IRA to Perkins School for the Blind will:

  • not be included in your taxable income.

  • satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.

  • reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions.

  • not be subject to charitable gift limitations.

  • provide meaningful support for Perkins.

If you are interested in improving the lives of children who are blind, please contact your IRA provider for exact instructions on how to provide a gift to Perkins from your IRA. Individuals with check writing privileges on their IRA accounts may find this to be the most effective way to make gifts directly from their IRA.

To assist you with this process, see our complete IRA gift transfer instructions.

If you do plan to complete an IRA Charitable Rollover for Perkins please contact us or call 617-972-7328. Thank you for considering a gift to support our work this year. Your dedication and support are sincerely appreciated.
