Elementary Summer Programs

Steps Toward Independence

Grades 4-6: Sunday, July 18 – Friday, July 23, 2010

Grades 1-3: Sunday, July 25 – Friday, July 30, 2010

Two separate weeks of OVERNIGHT summer programs will be held on the Perkins Campus.  The focus will be on socialization with peers who are also blind or visually impaired, basic skills training, community exploration, and recreation.

NEW Intensive Instruction Classes:

Students will attend classes for part of the day that address areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum such as:
  • Home & Personal Management 
  • Cooking
  • Communiy Experience 
  • Braille & Technology 
  • Orientation & Mobility 
  • Social Skills 

Students will also participate in adapted recreation activities and structured learning experiences. Recreation Activites will be offered in: 

  • Music/Drama 
  • Field Trips
  • Physical Education
  • Crafts
  • Water Sports 
  • Games
  • Outdoor Adventures 
  • Swimming
  • Horseback Riding 

Space is limited.  All applicants and referral sources may be interviewed after a completed application packet has been returned.  School and other educational/state contacts may also be interviewed.  Students accepted into the program will be notified as soon as possible.
