Bookshare.org Free Trial Membership

Bookshare.org is an online community that enables people with visual and other print disabilities to legally share scanned books and read them with a computer or notetaker. The Bookshare digital library has over 34,000 books and periodicals available for download in DAISY (Digital Audio Information System) or BRF (braille formatted file) format.

If you are registered with the Braille & Talking Book Library, you are eligible for Bookshare.org! Individual Bookshare.org membership cost $50 annually. The Perkins Library is sponsoring free 3 month trial memberships for borrowers who are interested in checking out what Bookshare has to offer.

Schools and students under 18 with qualifying disabilities have free access to Bookshare.org thanks to the generous support of the Office of Special Education Programs of the U.S. Department of Education. To take advantage of this offer, use the code "OSEP" when signing up for Bookshare.org.

Library staff can also download Bookshare books for registered borrowers to use on their computer or notetaker. If you’re not quite sure you are ready to try downloading your own content, we can help. Library staff can assist you to select some great books and help you to get signed up.
