The Perkins Braille & Talking Book Library is affiliated with the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind & Physically Handcapped network of cooperating libraries. The BTBL has been affiliated since the beginning of the Talking Book Program in 1931. The Library serves patrons as young as seven months and as old as 109 years on both a walk-in and mail-order basis.

Learning through listening.

Many major Boston radio stations are airing four BTBL announcements. These compelling radio spots introduce the experience of listening to a "talking book", as well as providing important program and contact information for this free service. Outreach and marketing efforts are a key priority in getting the word out about the services of the Braille & Talking Book Library to potentially eligible borrowers in every city and town throughout Massachusetts. It is estimated that over 150,000 individuals are eligible for services, but are unaware the Library exists. We currently provide services to roughly 15% of the eligible users. Radio is a natural medium to utilize in getting the word out about the Library and its wide range of services.
