For people who are blind or have other disabilities, assistive technology - sometimes referred to as adaptive technology - offers a leveled playing field, providing access to empowering information.

Talking computers, tactile tools, and digital devices, can provide innovative methods for people with visual or other impairments to advance their education, hone skills, and perform daily tasks.

Perkins is committed to being a leader in providing technology services. To that end, Perkins offers training, equipment demonstrations, technology assessments for education, evaluations of people with low vision and other disabilities, software testing, and consulting for making websites accessible.

During the past few years Perkins has increased our investments in hardware and software adaptive technology, expanded our technology staff, and augmented training for staff and students.

On March 31, 2008, the acquisition of Adaptive Technology Consulting, Inc., was finalized, bringing Gayle Yarnall and her dedicated team into the Perkins Products family. The company, now known as Adaptive Technology, a Division of Perkins Products, has a reputation for using high-technology adaptive devices, training, and consulting services to bring greater independence to individuals who are blind, visually impaired or have learning disabilities.

Adaptive Technology Founder Gayle Yarnall is herself blind and uses many of the very same devices that will now be sold by Perkins Products. Yarnall has a long history with Perkins and is excited to bring her knowledge and enthusiasm for assistive technology to a school with a mission of providing services that build proactive and meaningful lives for people with visual and other impairments.
