Biology
Cell division with clay
Using a large lump of clay the student will divide the clay into two equal pieces. Then divide those pieces again continuing to divide the clay to tactually experience how cells increase exponentially. More complex cell division concepts can also be demonstrated with clay.
Chromosomes with clay
In high school biology, students learn about how geneticists construct karyotypes to examine chromosomes for genetic defects. A traditional classroom activity involves using photographs of chromosomes and organizing them into matching pairs, and in order from largest to smallest. This activity can be done tactually using chromosomes formed from clay.
