Aubrey Webson
Perkins International
Director
As Director of Perkins International, Dr. W. Aubrey Webson oversees our work with hundreds of partners in 65 countries around the world. Aubrey started at Perkins in 1992 and led initiatives to grow services in Africa and the Caribbean. He helped shape educational services for children who are deafblind and those with multiple disabilities; supported government and service workers in policy development; and introduced and implemented the Institutional Development Program, a capacity building project for organizations of the blind in Africa and the Caribbean.
Prior to joining Perkins, Aubrey worked with SightSavers International and Helen Keller International. From 1981-86 he served as the Executive Director of the Caribbean Council for the Blind. Among his distinguished academic credentials, he has a Doctorate in Management from Case Western Reserve University. Recently, Aubrey has added work with braille literacy to his portfolio. Aubrey has a long list of volunteer memberships, representation on boards and has published in the field, including his 1998 book, “Empowerment of the Blind."
Aubrey was born on the island Nation of Antigua Barbuda in the Caribbean. As a person who is blind and has lived in a developing country, Aubrey understands the importance of having access to family support and educational resources. He was given the opportunity to develop leadership and life skills working with community groups and these experiences instilled in him a strong commitment to giving back to humanity. The mission of Perkins International is improving the quality of life for children who are deafblind or blind with multiple disabilities throughout the world. Aubrey believes that all children have the capacity to learn, all families have love to share, and all human beings should be given the chance to develop to their potential.
In his role leading the efforts of Perkins International, Aubrey will work with policy makers, families, educators and students to expand services; bring resources and opportunities where none exist; and join the world community in the social network of creating possibilities for all.
