Perkins embraces diversity in ability, thought, culture and belief. Perkins has a Diversity Council comprised of representatives from departments and programs across campus to assist the school in its diversity efforts.
The Diversity Council:
- Serves as an advisory group to the President and Senior Management
- Provides leadership and guidance and makes recommendations on how to build and recognize campus diversity
- Encourages respect for and understanding of diverse cultural traditions
- Promotes greater diversity in all programs and among staff and students
- Support diversity initiatives and monitors and communicates the results of such initiatives to the Perkins community

A Perkins education prepares students to live, interact and work in a multi-cultural community, to explore and express all aspects of their identity and to be effective self-advocates;
Perkins’ curriculum includes themes, stories, people, events and field trips that reflect multiple cultures and historical perspectives, and the school’s menu includes authentic foods representing cuisines from around the world;
Perkins staff and students reflect the rich mixture of people in the communities of greater Boston; representing the variety of cultural, ethnic, racial and identity groups and faith communities in the area;

Perkins provides an environment in which all members of the Perkins community feel safe sharing important aspects of their identity and personal experiences;
The school’s décor and artwork reflect a variety of people and cultures and is accessible and meaningful for people who are blind or deafblind;
Perkins actively seeks out connection and interaction with school and community groups outside of our campus to foster better communication and understanding;
Perkins provides materials, mailings, interpreted meetings, etc, in students’ families’ native language upon request;
